Presidents Report October 2021

The past few months have been a very busy time for Woolmer Forest Lions. September saw us holding our inaugural Charity Golf Day at Blacknest Golf Club. The weather was kind to us and the 48 golfers taking part enjoyed a great day's golfing and were extremely generous with their donations. The day raised over £1000, half of which has been given to the Brain Tumour Research Charity. This great response definitely encourages us to hold the event again next year.

It was lovely to have one of our annual favourites return this year - Blackmoor Apple Tasting Day. This is always a very popular local event and was celebrating this year its 50th year. Again we were blessed with fine weather and the crowds turned out. We parked over 1300 cars with our giant yellow fingers and the generosity of the public when exiting the car park raised us over £2000. Many thanks to you, if you were one of those who dropped a coin in our collecting buckets.

October has seen us hold our 40th Charter Lunch, a chance for members to celebrate our achievements over the past 40 years. The occasion was also used to present a Lions Plaque of Appreciation to the staff of Forest Surgery for the exceptional support they have given to the local community over the past year.

Heading through Autumn into Winter we will be making plans for our Christmas collections and Santa will be polishing up his sleigh. We will be out collecting money to buy food parcels for local families in need, so if you are aware of a family that has fallen on hard times and may need a little extra help this Christmas, then please email me. All details will be treated in strictest confidence.

You can also email me for any further information on what being a Lion involves and how you could go about joining us
