April 2021

Presidents Update - April 2021

The Spring weather is with us, we are beginning to be allowed out and about more and we can start to feel more positive about the year ahead. Over the month of March, we held an online Easter Basket Appeal, and the three lucky winners were drawn on Ist April, each one receiving a basket full of Easter treats. This was our first try at an online appeal and although not as successful as we had hoped, still managed to make some money to go towards good causes. Thank you to all of you who supported the draw.

I was very happy to present a Certificate of Appreciation to Headley Fine Foods for the excellent service they have given to their locals over the past twelve months. When strict COVID regulations were in place they went above and beyond to make sure the residents of Headley could get their basic supplies.

World Earth Day falls on 22nd April and as part of a Lions International Campaign we will be holding a local litter pick to mark this. The pick will take place on the morning of April 17th, so if you see us clearing an area near you, please give us a wave.

As the vaccination programme proceeds so we continue to help with the marshaling at Forest Surgery, we will continue to support this for as long as we are needed, and we have been very grateful for the help we have received from some of our 'Friends of Lons.'

Plans for events in the summer are starting to come together and we hope to be supporting the Town Partnership Funday on 21st August. We will also be re-scheduling the Charity Golf Day that was planned for September 2020, it will now be on September 10th, 2021. If you are a golfer please look out for details of how to enter on our website and Facebook Page.

It is with great sadness that we learnt of the death of the 4th Earl of Selborne and we send our condolences to his family. For many years we have worked with the Selborne family at the annual Apple Tasting and they have always been great supporters of Woolmer Forest Lions Club.

I will finish by wishing you all, a very Happy Easter, take care and please do not hesitate to contact us, if you would like to find out more about Woolmer Forest Lions Club
