August 2021

July sees the start of a new Lions year for Lions Clubs all over the world and we celebrate our new year with a garden tea party for our members and guests, the star of the show being a 40th Anniversary 'Lions' cake made by one of our members.

If you have visited your local library in the past few months, you may have seen our anniversary display and hopefully had a chance to read some of the press cuttings from the past 40 years, maybe you even spotted a younger you in one of the articles?

Now we are in the height of the summer the demand for our support increases, and we have been helping out with marshalling at the Hogmoor Inclosure, the openining of The Shed and will be manning the bouncy castles at Bordon Fun Day on August 21st. We have also had stalls at both the Country Market and Rogate Car Boot Sales raising funds from some of the items donated to us.

Recycling has always been important to our club, and we are very pleased at how well our collecting of empty drinks cans is going. We are receiving cans from many different sources. When we are contacted, we collect the cans, make sure they are well crushed and then store them until we have a large enough load to take to the scrap merchant. The cans collected in the last six months, raised over £200, and we were very pleased to be able to pass this money on to the local foodbanks in Bordon and Headley.

If you would like to start supporting our can recycling then just rinse out your empty cans, crush them and put them in a bin bag. When the bag is full just contact us and someone will collect the bag from you. As well as helping the planet by recycling you will also be helping local people in need, who will benefit from the money raised.

Enjoy your summer and stay safe
