President's Musings
Woolmer Forest Lions have had a good month, getting a little wet at Apple Tasting Day at the Blackmoor Estate on the 14th. But in spite of the weather we enjoyed the day, only the second day of rain in years. A big thank you to all the WFL members and friends who helped us on the day. Thanks also to other local Lions Clubs who also braved the rain and supported us so fantastically.
Forthcoming Social events for the club are the Charter Lunch at the Blacknest Golf Club on 28 October and a Skittles Evening in November.
Woolmer Forest Lions are getting ready to collect food and toys for this years Xmas Parcels, which will be donated to those in need. A change from recent years, due to manpower issues, we will not be collecting from the public via our well-known yellow bags.
The Club will be attending the Christmas Fayre at the Bordon Community Centre on 1st December, so please drop by and say hello.
One of our members Lion Vic Machin, deserves a mention in dispatches. More or less singlehandedly he did a great job arranging and collecting on behalf of the people affected by the disaster in Indonesia. He raised £345, which the club matched. This will be paid into the Disaster Emergency Committee accounts, which will be increased by the Government.
We also funded the purchase of a greenhouse for Holme Primary School in Headley, for the children to grow vegetables and learn about where food comes from. Look out for the pictures of this, which will appear shortly.
I would once again like to thank the Lions who turn out in all weathers within our club and other Lions who continue to make a difference to people's lives both here and internationally.
Richard Balchin
WFL President
