June 2016
This is the time of the year when, across the world, Lions Clubs start the handover process to mark the start of the new Lions year commencing on the 1st July. So at the end of June the clubs 'hands over ' to new Presidents and other club officers. Just to be different I am carrying on , but we will have a new Vice President, Lion Jim, who will take over from me next July.
The new Lions year will see clubs start their centennial celebrations, marking one hundred years of serving their communities. Woolmer Forest Lions have decided to support a number of centennial projects alongside other fundraising activities. These include:
Collecting used batteries for re-cycling
Undertaking some bulb planting in order to brighten up a community area, more work of this kind will also be completed in the Autumn
Supporting the Hearing Dogs Initiative
Promoting and supporting the Medic-Alert project - 'Message in a Bottle.' Bottles can be obtained from local Doctors surgeries, and some local Pharmacies.
During last month we took part in the initiative, which was part of the Queens Jubilee - WFL collected 19 bags of unwanted litter/ bottles / cans. If you were one of the passers-by who thanked us in person or via social media, that was very much appreciated - thank you.
If you want to catch up with us, we will be helping control the car parking at Gilbert Whites House, Selbourne, on June 17th and 18th.
We will also be carrying out the same function at the Bordon Festival on Saturday 25th June at Budds Lane. We will also be manning fund-raising stalls and recruiting for WFL club.
We need your help!
Do you have a garage with spare room to accommodate our 6ft Christmas Collection trailer, or maybe you have, or know someone who has an un-used garage. If you think you can help then please get in touch with us.
A final thought to leave you with - Lions Clubs are the largest worldwide voluntary community service organisation. That is a fact to reflect upon - we at Woolmer Forest Lions club are proud to be part of this organisation and if you feel you want to be part of this organisation then you would most welcome to come and join us, and enjoy the fun in supporting your local community.
