February 2017

Presidents February Jottings

Our year has got off on a sad start - one of our former members Lion Frank has sadly passed away. As we say in the Lions circle he has been called to higher service. Frank became a member of Woolmer Forest Lions Club, having transferred from Farnham Lions. Both Frank and his wife Jennifer worked tirelessly for the club, and our sympathies go to Jennifer and their family at this sad time.

Now that the busy Christmas time has come and gone, you will find us next at the Bordon Community Meeting, which will be held at Havannah Officers Mess, Station Road, Bordon on 7th February 2017 at 6.30pm. Please come along to find out about the plans for Bordon and learn more about the Lions, as we have a stall there.

Each year we organise an Easter Appeal with the sale of Easter Eggs via a raffle, so please watch out for one of our well-known giant Easter Eggs, in a local outlet. We will publish a list of where the Easter Eggs will be next month.

The WFL Club was delighted to support a worthy local cause: We have been able to support Bordon Junior School in the national Rock Challenge event this year. By the way its Rock and Roll ..... not rock climbing. To qualify for this event they take a number of children and staff to Portsmouth Guildhall in March, where they perform music set to match life-skills themes. We have covered the cost of their coach travel, and we hope to report on their efforts later on in the months ahead.

I thought I would pass on to you, news of a special event I have just been made aware of: Petersfield Lions will be taking part in an event to mark World Sight Day on 1st April, so please look out (no pun intended) for more details next month. We will be attending too, supporting our fellow Lions.

Did you make a New Year's Resolution to get more involved in your local community, but haven't acted on it yet? Its not too late to come along and see what Lions do. Time maybe an issue, and you can only help out a little, that is okay, you can be a 'Friend of Lions.' We would love to see you.
